S. Shyam Sundar (PhD, Stanford) is distinguished professor and founding director of the Media Effects Research Laboratory at Penn State University’s College of Communications. His research investigates social and psychological effects of interactive tools in online media interfaces. A major focus of his research is on user experience and outcomes of customization, with emphasis on the use of technologies for motivating individuals to perform health actions. Sundar has been identified as the most published author of Internet-related research in the field during the medium’s first decade. His research is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Korea Science and Engineering Foundation, among others. He was elected chair of the Communication & Technology division and Vice-President of the International Communication Association, 2008-2010.

Cornelia is an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science and Engineering Department at University of North Texas. Her research areas of interest are Machine Learning, Text Mining, Recommender Systems, Natural Language Processing, Sentiment and Subjectivity Analysis, and Social Network Analysis. Her research in the context of the Cancer Informatics Initiatives is to automatically estimate the sentiment of forum posts, to identify opinion leaders who play an important role in the sustainability of the network, and to capture "who-talks-to-whom" structure of the community.

Ginger Moore

Ginger Moore is a research clinical psychologist with expertise in the study of emotion. Her research examines the impact of social relationships on bio-behavioral systems of emotion regulation that function as risk or protective factors for psychological adjustment. Her work emphasizes issues affecting women’s health and well-being and those of their families, including postpartum depression and marital conflict, and, recently, relations among mood and social networking participation in breast cancer patients.
